The Lord Has Come: 5 Reasons to Rejoice

The Lord Has Come

Every Christmas we are bombarded with images of Santa Clause, reindeer and the chaos of Christmas shopping. Although Christmas is rich in meaning, it has been significantly diluted to focus our attention elsewhere. The essence of this holiday is to celebrate not only the birth of the Son of God, but the presence of our Lord. While the world is announcing that Santa Clause is coming, we are announcing that the Lord has come and we have reason to rejoice. (Click to Tweet)

We Have Found Favor With God (Luke 1:30)

Just as Mary, we have found favor with God, we have found grace in His eyes. Not that we were searching for the Lord as treasure, but in Him it is found, in Him it is discovered. There was nothing we could have done to expedite the coming of our Salvation, He came in an act of grace and a outpouring of love. Rejoice!

We Have Knowledge of Salvation (Luke 1:77)

In conjunction with the favor we have found with God, demonstrated in the coming of Jesus, we also have knowledge of salvation. We are blind to our own wretchedness and seek not the Lord, but it is through the Advent we have knowledge of salvation which is found in the Lord (Romans 3:11). Though we were once in darkness, through Jesus, light has been given to those in darkness (Luke 1:79).

He Saved His People From Their Sin (Matthew 1:21, John 1:11-13)

This one really hit home for me. The Scriptures specifically say that Jesus came to save His people from their sin. If I am to study the Bible correctly, I would understand this is speaking of those in the lineage of Abraham, the Israelites or the Jews, not the Gentiles. Ah, but there is good news, such good news. In John we read, though He (Jesus) came to His own, they received Him not, but as many received Him to them he gave power to become the sons of God. So by God's ordination I am of a surety, "His people".

He Has Come To Shepherd His People (Matthew 2:6)

And because I am now "His people", I am under His guidance. He is my shepherd. I have come to know His voice. Jesus has given His life for His sheep, for His people. We now have an advocate. Rejoice!

We Have Grace upon Grace (John 1:16, 17)

This might be best described as an analogy. Imagine Christmas dinner and an unlimited amount of your favorite dish, in which you never got full. Yea, grace upon grace. Grace, by itself is incredible, but grace upon grace is unimaginable, but by the coming of our Lord, it is attainable. Rejoice!

A sincere Merry Christmas to you. Whether you receive gifts or not, you have at least 5 reasons to rejoice! I love you and thank each of you for spending this bit of time with me.
See you next year!
